Our oncology team, comprised of Maine Medical Center and community-based physicians specializing in cancer care, includes Board certified and fellowship-trained medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and surgeons, as well as oncology-certified nurses and clinical patient navigators.

We have a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, including care for Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer patients, from the point of diagnosis through survivorship. We care for more than 3,200 people experiencing cancer annually – more than any other hospital in the state of Maine. Specialists work as a team to help patients and their families navigate their health before, during, and after their diagnosis. Clinical patient navigators work to ensure patients and their loved ones have access to all the information they need to make the most informed and timely decisions about their treatment.

Established in 2005, the Reid R Sacco AYA Cancer Alliance is dedicated to a vision of seeing that day when the cancers striking adolescents & young adults are routinely curable or entirely preventable.  An all-volunteer organization, the Alliance launches and supports hospital-based comprehensive AYA programs that address both historic and emergent gaps in AYA cancer care, treatment, public awareness, advocacy and professional education.  It focuses on: providing specialized and age-appropriate care, treatment and resources to AYA cancer patients and AYA cancer survivors; raising awareness among AYAs, among medical professionals, and among the general public about AYA cancer, its challenges, and the resources now available; closing the gap between pediatric oncology and adult oncology, a gap into which AYAs cancer patients too often fell; expanding access for AYAs to potentially life-saving clinical trials for new medicines, immunotherapies and other treatments; leading the way in developing new and innovative models-of-care, protocols, programs and approaches for treating AYAs diagnosed with cancer as children or as AYAs; and advocating on behalf AYA cancer patients and survivors for the expansion of research into what makes cancer in AYAs different from those in children and older adults.
